ESD COMPLIANCE AUDIT

Conducting an ESD gap analysis helps organizations maintain robust ESD control systems, ensuring that sensitive electronic components are protected and compliance with industry standards is achieved.
STATIC RISK ASSESSMENT AS PER INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS
NPI
Most companies have formal NPI (New Product Introduction) procedures to verify manufacturing is well prepared for new product designs. However, ESD is seldom included in the NPI process and this has lead to many manufacturing crises. Without the "red flag" for Class 0 devices ESD manufacturing failure rates have been known to approach 100% and caused a virtual shut down of production.
Advanced Technical Assessment/Audit:

We provide findings reports, photographs of findings, detailed customized recommendations, and the assignment of corrective action priorities. S20.20 Pre-Assessment Audit
This S20.20 Pre-Assessment Audit may be done solely for the identification of gaps to S20.20 and expert recommendations for achieving S20.20 certification on the first try. It may also be combined with our Advanced Technical Assessment as described above for a complete assessment of gaps to both S20.20 and current best practices.
A complete analysis will be conducted of the Administrative and Technical Elements of S20.20 such as the ESD Control Program Plan. Gaps to S20.20 will be succinctly identified along with customized expert recommendations for corrective actions.

FAILURE ANALYSIS
The damage resulting from a 1 kV stressing voltage is shown in Figure 3, while the resulting discharge waveforms are depicted in Figure 4. The CBE discharge current is approximately 9 amps, whereas the CDM peak current of the device alone is under 4 amps. These stresses frequently exceed the design capabilities of ICs. The damage is far more severe than typical CDM device stress testing (JEDEC C101) and would likely be misdiagnosed by the vast majority of FA experts.
ESD Best Practices
While most companies are acutely aware of the hazards of ESD (electrostatic discharge), few are aware of best practices for preventing failures of today's extremely sensitive devices often referred to as Class 0. Virtually all factories will have these devices within the next year.
The lack of awareness is due, in part, to the rapid advancements is device technology that make it difficult for standards organizations to keep pace. S20.20 (ANSI/ESD S20.20) is the best industry standard available and is an excellent foundation for best practices ESD programs. To achieve best practices, companies with advanced technologies have found they must customize S20.20 to avoid unacceptable failure rates in the factory and field.
